Aider
Aider is an open source coding agent for the terminal. It edits a git repository with a model you choose and can commit the result.
- terminal
- git
- local
These are the coding tools listed on AgentAtlas. Most of them edit a repository you already have. A smaller group starts a new web app from a prompt. CodeRabbit is separate: it reviews a pull request and does not write the feature.
Names are alphabetical inside each group. This is not a scored ranking. A paid placement is labeled Sponsored on that tool's page, and none of these listings are sponsored.
Pick from where the code lives. Cursor and GitHub Copilot sit in the editor. Claude Code, Codex, Aider, Cline, and OpenCode can work from a terminal or an IDE, and the open source ones expect a model you connect. Continue was acquired by Cursor; its open-source code remains available. Jules, Codex, and Devin can also keep working in the cloud and return a pull request. Bolt, v0, Lovable, and Replit are the wrong list when you already have a large repository to change.
These read a project and change it. Aider, Cline, OpenCode, and OpenHands are open source. Continue was acquired by Cursor, and its open-source code remains available. The others are hosted products.
Coding
Aider is an open source coding agent for the terminal. It edits a git repository with a model you choose and can commit the result.
Coding
Claude Code is Anthropic's coding agent. It reads a repository, edits files, and runs commands from the terminal, an IDE, or the web.
Coding
Cline is an open source coding agent for VS Code. It reads the project, runs commands, and applies edits with an API key you provide.
Coding
Codex is OpenAI's coding agent. It writes and reviews code from ChatGPT, the terminal, or an IDE, and it can keep working in the cloud.
Coding
Continue is an open source coding agent that Cursor has acquired. The Continue site says the open-source codebase remains freely available.
Coding
Cursor is a code editor with AI built in. You can ask it to explain a project, edit many files, and apply the change from the chat.
Coding
Devin is Cognition's software engineering agent, and the editor formerly called Windsurf now lives under Devin Desktop. It plans and changes code in the cloud or on your machine.
Coding
GitHub Copilot suggests code as you type and can chat about a repository. Its agent mode takes on larger edits across a project.
Coding
Jules is Google's coding agent. It works on a GitHub repository in a cloud VM and opens a pull request when the task is done.
Coding
OpenCode is an open source coding agent for the terminal, a desktop app, or an IDE. It can run several agents on one project, and you can use the free models it includes or connect a model of your own.
Coding
OpenHands is an open source platform for software engineering agents. You can run agents locally or in the cloud and review their changes.
These start a project in the browser and show a preview. They are a weak fit for editing a codebase you already maintain.
Coding
Bolt, from StackBlitz, builds web apps in the browser from a prompt. It writes the project files and shows a live preview.
Coding
Lovable builds a web app from a chat prompt, including the interface and a simple backend. You keep editing the result in the browser.
Coding
Replit is a browser workspace for writing and hosting software. Its agent can create and change an app without a local setup.
Coding
v0 is Vercel's tool for building web apps from a description. You edit the result in the chat and can keep going until the app is ready.
CodeRabbit comments on a pull request in GitHub or GitLab. It does not replace an agent that writes the change.
